The work of these dedicated men and women is full of discomforts, sacrifice, and danger. In one year, 15 rural teachers were raped while trying to get to and from their workplaces. Four others drowned while trying to cross a river to get to their school, and an undetermined number were victims of assaults on their long and dangerous journey to carry out their mission -- to teach the children of El Salvador. By Tania Urías hablemos@elsalvador.com | Meet Evelyn | | | It Takes Courage to Pursue Your Dreams Despite the considerable dangers of the profession and the many obstacles she faces, 23-year old Evelyn dreams of becoming an educational leader. Evelyn is a college student at the Oscar Romero University in El Salvador. Her parents and her 12 brothers and sisters live on less than a dollar a day. So far, a scholarship from PEACE, International has supported her to complete three years of her five-year licensure program in education. You can help her to complete her studies with a one-time contribution -- or, for just $50 a month, you can sponsor her until graduation in 2008!
