PROJECT PARTNERS

PEACE, International currently supports three project partners located in El Salvador: the  Oscar Romero University, The National Forest of Reconciliation, and the National Association for Indigenous People of El Salvador (Asociación Nacional de Indígenas de El Salvador -- ANIS). Each of these private, non-profit, non-denominational, and non-partisan initiatives represent constructive responses by Salvadorans to help in the peace process after the devastating Civil War.

The Oscar Romero University.
Named for the murdered Catholic archbishop, Oscar Romero University was founded in 1994 to provide higher educational opportunities to students from poor families affected by the Civil War and its aftermath.  Located on a 10-acre farm in the rural province of Chalatenango, it is private, non-profit, non-denominational, and non-partisan.  It offers two- and five- year degree programs in Agronomy, Agricultural Engineering, Law, Education, Business Administration, Public Accounting, and Computer Science.

National Forest of Reconciliation
After twelve years of bloody civil war, El Salvador faces tremendous challenges.  Local citizens are helping to rebuild their lives and their environment by planting 80,000 trees on a former battleground, one for each person killed in the war.

The National Association of Indigenous Salvadorans (ANIS)

La Asocación Nacional de Indígenas Salvadoreñas (ANIS) has led the struggle for indigenous rights in El Salvador.
